You may remember that 'Cataclysmo' heroine Erin Sullivan did a couple of movies for Asylum, a low-budget production company well known for putting together imitations of upcoming major blockbuster films and, in most cases, having its 'mockbusters' out on video store shelves just days before or after the real deal opens in theatres.

'TransMorphers' (2007), with Erin as a beautiful android helping humanity battle giant robots, was the mockbuster equivalent to Michael Bay's revamp of 'TransFormers' (the other movie she appeared in was 2008's 'Monster', which cashed in on 'Cloverfield', despite reportedly not having a monster in it, as 'Cloverfield' did).

Erin doesn't appear in the new 'TransMorphers' prequel, 'Fall of Man' (good grief, it's even got its own subtitle, too), but in case you're curious, here's the trailer from Asylum's YouTube channel.  Looks like the budget's a bit bigger for this one - there's at least one, maybe two names you might recognize from other sci-fi or fantasy franchises.

'TransMorphers: Fall of Man' is due out on June 30th, just a few days after 'TransFormers: Revenge of the Fallen' hits theatres.

Interesting online newspaper article about Asylum's reasons behind the rip-offs.

I had the misfortunes to actually see both Transmorphers. I'm not sure why we always approach the Asylum subject on this board, but fine. I had real hopes for them to do a better job. I did. Especially with a name like Bruce Boxleitner in the credits. But boy, what a let-down, mostly where the execution was concerned.

Felix Vasquez Jr. of Cinema-Crazed.com -- who gave the original Transmorphers a positive review --  put it best: "There are moments when Transmorphers 2 rises to the occasion and injects a sense of urgency to the proceedings, but it takes too long for anything to happen. It's one long stretch of boring with a few hits of excitement, but the cons drastically affect the pros."

And he's still being nice. If you have to suffer through an Asylum film, try The Terminators. Still has lots of weak points, but compared to the rest of the lot, it feels less of a waste of time.

They say that coffee is the Devil's Drink. I guess that's why he never sleeps.
